Karmaveer Dadasaheb Kannamwar

Karmaver Dadasaheb Kannamwar, Ex. Chief Minister of Maharashtra was a staunch Gandhian and an ardent Congress Worker till the end of his life.  He founded the Village Uplift Society, Nagpur in the year 1961.  Today the Society’s social and educational activities are spread up in Wardha, Nagpur and Amraoti districts of Maharashtra.

 The towering personality, Karmaveer Dadasaheb Kannamwar was born on 10th January 1900 and hails from the state of Andhra.  He got settled in Maharashtra.  His social activities had the onset with the call given to the congressman by Mahatma Gandhi: “Go to the Villages and start the Village Uplift Works”, Ddadasaheb’s vigorous involvement in the “Struggle for Independence in India” was punctuated with imprisonment by the British several times.

 Dadasaheb Kannamwar emered on the horizon of National Politics when his political acumen was recognized by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India.  He was entrusted with the lofty responsibility of the state of Maharashtra as a “Chief Minister”.  His tenure as Chief Minister extends from 1962-1963.

 Dadasaheb Kannamwar breathed his last while working as Chief Minister of Maharashtra.  He had profoundly genial relation with Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Smt. Indira Gandhi.  They consoled Smt. Taisaheb wife of Late Kannamwarji personally visiting her in Mumbai on the sad demise of Kannamwarji in 1963.
